MOMENTUM profiles young Scandinavian artists and presents the international context within which they work. Momentum operates from and within a Nordic context. The ways in which ‘Nordic’ as a term or concept is approached has differed since the first edition in 1998.
Nationally the festival is the largest event of its kind and together with LIAF (Lofoten International Art Festival) it is one of two international festivals of contemporary art held in Norway. Momentum is organized under the administration of Punkt Ø AS – Østfold County Galleries.
Previous Momentum’s have been curated by: Lars Bang Larsen, Daniel Birnbaum and Atle Gerhardsen (1998), Jonas Ekeberg, Paula Toppila, Jacob Fabricius and Ina Blom (2000), Caroline Corbetta and Per Gunnar Tverbakk (2004), Anette Kierulf and Marc Sladen (2006), Lina Dzuverovic and Stina Högkvist (2009), Markús Tór Andrésson, Christian Skovbjerg Jensen, Theodor Rongborg, Aura Seikkula, Marianne Zamecznik (Imatine Being Here Now, 2011).
