    The White Hart’s Portal

    $1,131.28
The White Hart’s Portal is an original oil painting of a white deer stag appearing out of an abstract landscape (30x30x1.5 inches). The white deer looks to his right across the strange pale yellow and amethyst land. Behind him are trees that are weaving together as if they unknotted to allow him through. This is his portal (doorway) to elsewhere. The paint is thick and textured but the stag himself is carefully painted to contrast with the oddness of the environment he finds himself in. If I had to choose an animal that could possibly move between worlds, it would be deer. This particular deer is a real one and he lives at the British Wildlife Centre in Surrey where I stalked him one day to get photos of him. Painted on 3D canvas, edges white, ready to hang.

  • Seeing Beyond

    $1,896.00
Seeing Beyond is 48x36x1.5 inches large oil on canvas painting, semi abstract art nouveau style dreamscape. The painting shows a view through a golden curtain where the gap is forming a distorted number eight or infinity symbol. Through this shape there is a white stag looking out over a lake with a waterfall and blossom trees all around him. Up in the tree on the left is a white raven. The gold curtain is transparent so you can see this other world through it. I have always believed in other universes and other realities and this is a painting that tries to show this in an aesthetically pleasing way (I hope). The white stag and the white raven are there to add a little a mystery and have their own story to tell. I am particularly happy with the change in colours between the gold curtain which is quite warm and colder colours of the landscape beyond as it adds another aspect again to a slightly strange fairy tale type painting. It is painted on deep edge canvas, white edges, ready to hang. https://youtu.be/LkZdPykA32Q

Forest Wraiths is a 48x36x1.5 inches large semi abstract oil painting of red deer in a pale forest. A stag and two female deer stand in a clearing in a mystical forest and seem to be winking in and out of existence. The colours are fresh and neutral and muted with white veils and pale yellows, lilacs and blues. The painting style is a fusion of art nouveau, traditional and abstract and was made by building lots of transparent layers of paint over each other with the aim of making the scene not quite of this world but not too far removed from it either. Deer have a way of appearing and then vanishing, especially in woods and forests and this idea is hinted at in this painting. I also wanted to catch an impression of light through the trees with a little touch of the gold of a sunset - though not in a 'realistic' way. It is more hint of different realities slightly overlapping each other to give an element of magic. I live near the Ashdown Forest so though I often see deer, always find it thrilling. Painted on deep edge canvas, white edges, ready to hang.

Spirit of May is 40x40x1.5 inches art nouveau contemporary landscape painting of a white spectral deer in a wildflower meadow. The painting was made after a walk near Wadhurst in Sussex and shows a very colourful array of wildflowers in an abstract, art nouveau, expressionist style. It shows a path view through a meadow in May leading towards hazy summer trees in the background. A transparent white deer stands in the foreground blending into his landscape as deer tend to do in real life. The intention I had on painting this landscape was to capture my impression of a beautiful area of Sussex and a beautiful season. I am always thrilled by the sights and scents of England in May and I try to share these moments in my paintings. Although this has many colours in it, the painting is still mostly green with overlapping veils and colours that hint of how fleeting the month of May is. It is painted on wide edge canvas, white edges, ready to hang, no frame needed.
  • 30x40x1.5 inches red forest calls is a red oil painting made in a variety of rich reds, crimson, scarlet, yellow and purple. It is painted in art nouveau slightly abstract style and shows a red deer stag deep in a red forest while above and behind him some female deer call to him from the edge of the trees. There is a tentative message in this - females being the voice of reason when males get riled up maybe? but mostly it was painted because I love deer, I love red and I love deep dark forests. It is painted on deep edge canvas and the edges are also red. Framing not necessary.
