• Julia – 02-08-19 Last year I used dancer Julia Gómez Avilés as a model. Next to being a wonderful person for an artist she is ideal because of her flexibility. She can pose in many ways and has lots of stamina. This drawing is not from a live drawing session but based on a picture I saw in her Instagram account. I wanted to do this one because of the extreme pose and the challenge to render her complex body position in a credible way while still adding value to the theme. The drawing shows elements of roundism, realis mand surrealism. Graphite pencil drawing (Pentel 0.5 mm, 3B) on Canson Bristol paper (21 x 29.7 x 0.1 cm) - A4 format) Artist: Corné Akkers

  • Roundism – 17-09-18 This is the fourth drawing of model Julia Gómez Alivés in which I combined my roundism with colors. I washed them a little bit with a Sakura water brush that works like a fountain pen. I am not a great watercolorist and since this technique is pretty new to me these watercolor pencils allowed me to take a position between a colored pencil drawing and a watercolour painting. Perhaps I do more in the future. Watercolor pencil drawing (Faber Castell – Albrecht Dührer) on Strathmore Drawing paper (21 x 29.7 x 0.1 cm - A4 format) Artist: Corné Akkers

Roundism – 06-02-18 (sold) Recently I saw a picture of a model passing by posing a great triangular shape. I used this principle and my own model (with a bob hair cut) to make a cubistic composition out of triangles, circles and rectangulars, complemented with a harmonized balance of light and darker planes, creating rhythym and diction. Roundism - 02-02-18 Based on a prestudy in pastel (Model – 01-12-18) I made this painting in oil. My objective was to stay in line with the fauvist colour kind of strokes (in case of the pastel they were pretty much ‘broken’ and ‘open’ strokes / patches) but also to get to a more abstract feel by means of rendering the model slighty cubistic. The couch she is lying on also is altered to my cubistic needs. Referring to previous cubist drawings I tried to paint some essential geometric shapes in it like circular, rectangular and triangular moves. Colourwise I tried to get the max saturation on the model whereas the couch shows a less saturated colour scheme. Oil on linen (60 x 80 cm) Artist: Corné Akkers

A work in which I combined colour saturation with complementary colour schemes. Working with my Indian model always is very rewarding. She has a great dark skin complexion showing all kinds of colours dependant on the lighting and I tried to capture the effect of light breaking on her thighs like light fragmentated through a prisma.
