Spring Orchard is an original oil painting of pink and white apple blossom trees in an orchard by a stream. The inspiration for the painting was of an orchard I found last May near Forest Row in Sussex. The style is contemporary, art nouveau and expressionistic was and was made by blending thick layers of paint over and over again and adding more and more colours and paint daubs until the paint is extra thick in the centre. I kept the edges blurred to help with the effect of it being a painting of a memory. The colours are pale greens, whites and pinks. This place was magical and I wanted to capture a little of the moment. I would not have been surprised to see mythical creatures appear in the fields beyond the stream but instead was happy just to listen to the birds who love May even more that I do. Seeing Beyond is 48x36x1.5 inches large oil on canvas painting, semi abstract art nouveau style dreamscape. The painting shows a view through a golden curtain where the gap is forming a distorted number eight or infinity symbol. Through this shape there is a white stag looking out over a lake with a waterfall and blossom trees all around him. Up in the tree on the left is a white raven. The gold curtain is transparent so you can see this other world through it. I have always believed in other universes and other realities and this is a painting that tries to show this in an aesthetically pleasing way (I hope). The white stag and the white raven are there to add a little a mystery and have their own story to tell. I am particularly happy with the change in colours between the gold curtain which is quite warm and colder colours of the landscape beyond as it adds another aspect again to a slightly strange fairy tale type painting. The Owls Wood is 30x30x1.5 inches oil painting on canvas in contemporary art nouveau style of a white owl in an autumn wood. The painting shows a view along an autumn path through rows of trees vanishing in the distance. Autumn colours of greens, yellows, reds and oranges can be seen through white branches and the owl floats behind them in stealth mode as owls do. She is silent and deadly and beautiful and she owns this little forest. The paint is thick and luxurious and is reminiscent of stained glass. The painting started life as a more traditional autumn forest path painting but needed something extra so I added more as I like layers and the idea of things being hidden and then revealed. The painting is dedicated to owl lovers and anyone helping to keep our English forests ancient and beautiful and safe for their wildlife. Horse Metamorphosis is a 31.5 x 47x.0.5 inches large contemporary red oil painting of beautiful gold Arabian horse against an abstract bright red background. The golden horse dances in the foreground inside a dark forest with mottled light falling in patches on the path out towards the clearing. The path leads out of the woods and into a glowing summer wildflower meadow. Veils of transparent bright red hang over the scene as the horse begins to emerge from that world into a different one. The painting was started years ago simply to reflect the happiness I get when looking at a beautiful horse but become something more when the red veils were added which gives it a real presence. The original message of the painting was that there is more to life than hiding in the dark. I think now the message is more that there are other realities and that is worth exploring them. Equine Dreaming is 44x54 inches large, framed red painting of two black Arabian horses, abstract style, in a poppy field. This painting was originally painted to show me as a little girl in a poppy field dreaming of the two horses I would one day own. Unfortunately I grew up allergic to horses so this never happened. Instead, I painted them. Recently I made the painting more abstract and added a red background. You can still see a suggestion of poppies and green fields, hills and trees beyond the two back horses and you can still see a little girl in a yellow dress picking poppies and dreaming of horses. I chose red simply because it works well with black and is the complement to green which was the original background colour. The painting is framed in a metallic burnished copper and silver frame, two inches wide and 1.5 inches deep. Weaving Summer is a 40x40x1,5 inches, large, semi abstract oil on canvas of a summer meadow with swallows. The painting is abstract, contemporary, art nouveau in style and was inspired by sitting in a meadow in Forest Row watching swallows swooping over the wildflowers of this Sussex field. I imagined the swallows were weaving some kind of summer enchantment as they maneuvered around each other and that is why I named it Weaving Summer. Nature performs and the swallows are her little magicians. The painting was created in layers - the first being blurred and blended to give an out of focus look. The next layers are more detailed and hint at wildflowers, buttercups, daisies, clover and long grasses together with the birds who are leaving trails of gold behind them as part of their spell. Summer in England does not last as long as we would like but it is stunningly beautiful and I never tire of walking in fields and painting my impressions of what I see. Spirit of May is 40x40x1.5 inches art nouveau contemporary landscape painting of a white spectral deer in a wildflower meadow. The painting was made after a walk near Wadhurst in Sussex and shows a very colourful array of wildflowers in an abstract, art nouveau, expressionist style. It shows a path view through a meadow in May leading towards hazy summer trees in the background. A transparent white deer stands in the foreground blending into his landscape as deer tend to do in real life. The intention I had on painting this landscape was to capture my impression of a beautiful area of Sussex and a beautiful season. I am always thrilled by the sights and scents of England in May and I try to share these moments in my paintings. Although this has many colours in it, the painting is still mostly green with overlapping veils and colours that hint of how fleeting the month of May is. It is painted on wide edge canvas, white edges, ready to hang, no frame needed. -
